A bench of Justices D Y Chandrachud and Hima Kohli took a compassionate view of the lifers languishing in crowded prisons despite spending long years in prison and despite fulfilling the conditions in the policy relating to remission of sentence for convicts sentenced to imprisonment for life for heinous offences.
